The Lincoln Police Department had fewer alcohol-related incidents around Memorial Stadium over the final four home football games compared to previous years, according to police records.
LPD gave out six minor in possession citations during the final four home games in 2019 and only one in 2018. In 2016 and 2017, LPD gave out a total of 44 citations.
The weather conditions and the teams the Huskers are playing are big factors in the amount of people cited and charges, Sergeant Angela Sands, said. However, she said the public has helped, too.
“The people throwing the parties and the party goers understand what we are looking for," Sands said. "And they’re helping assist by calling us if their parties do get out of control and taking a few simple steps ahead of time to ensure that they don’t.
LPD has seen less out-of-control parties in the area surrounding the stadium and a decrease in drunk-driving arrests because of ride share option over the last few years, Sands said.
