Omaha’s iconic Kiewit Plaza building has been purchased by a local developer who plans to renovate the structure, which opened along Farnam Street in 1962.
John Lund, CEO of the Lund Company, said the sale is a good opportunity for the partnership, Blackstone Plaza LLC, to own a building in the Blackstone district, an area that has seen a new wave of redevelopment and growth within the last seven years.
Renovations will be done on each floor to prepare for the 2021 departure of the Kiewit Corporation and attract new tenants to the building, Lund said.
“We’re going to be catching people making decisions, and we’re going to show them a building that has a tremendous location and wonderful amenities with covered parking, a full fitness center, a full dining room, and an attached garage,” Lund said.
Other amenities of the building include an on-site car mechanic and a barber shop.
Lund said the group is looking for different types of companies, such as accounting firms and law firms, to occupy the twelve floors that will be left by the Kiewit Corporation.
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, one of the current tenants of Kiewit Plaza, has signed a twenty-year lease and will take over an additional floor in the building. Lund said it is a privilege to have such a strong and notable company as a part of the building.
The 15-story building includes nearly 250,000 square feet of space.
