A new athletic facility will house the Huskers football program starting in 2022, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced today.

University of Nebraska leaders gathered today to unveil plans for a new football facility, which will also house a dining hall and study area for all student athletes. It will also add an additional practice field.

The new facility will sit next to Memorial Stadium, and will include new locker rooms and a new weight room. The facilities will accommodate Nebraska’s expanded football roster, one of the largest in the country.

At today’s press conference, head coach Scott Frost emphasized the facility’s importance in bringing Nebraska football back into the upper echelons of the sport.

“When I got back to Nebraska I knew there was a lot of things about the football team that needed to be fixed. To be honest with you, a new facility wasn’t even on my radar. It’s not something I even considered," Frost said. "I think this is evidence that the University of Nebraska is committed to making sure that we do everything we can to compete at the highest level.”

The 350,000 square foot facility is expected to cost $155 million to build.

Wan'Dale Robinson is a wide receiver for the football team, and he thinks facilities will help build the talent level of the team.

“Adding this facility is just gonna attract even more recruits like myself and attract even more people to want to come here," Robinson said. "I know that it’s probably like three years away from now and, I mean it’ll come fast so I’m just excited for the future and everything that this program has in store.”

Groundbreaking for the new building is planned for next summer.
