Nebraska Collects More August Tax Than Expected

Nebraska’s state government collected more tax revenue in August than expected.

The Nebraska Department of Revenue announced today the state gathered $462 million of net revenue in August, which is nearly 5% above the projected amount.

Nebraska Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton said it’s not uncommon to be above or below a tax projection. However, he said August was a good month.

“We’re $35 million ahead," Fulton said. "Year to date, it’s about 5%. If you look at the year-to-year number, we’re up about 6%. And then September is coming. We’re in September now, collecting revenues. It’s the second largest revenue month, behind April, for the state of Nebraska.”

Tax income has been above projections in recent months, according to Fulton, but he’s not ready to declare it’s a common trend. He said he’ll have to see what September holds to determine the pattern.
