Rain this week has forced the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island to move much of their parking off the fairgrounds.

The State Fair is now asking fair goers to park in other lots and commute via shuttles. They’ll have seven shuttles running from 10 a.m to 10:45 p.m.

Nebraska State Fair executive director Lori Cox said the roads are really soft near the fairgrounds. Cox adds they’ll also give away free admission to the 2020 Nebraska State Fair, Monday-Thursday, to anyone who uses the shuttles for the 2019 fair.

“We do have strong need to park off site, particularly from the local side," Cox said. "If Grand Island can especially join together and jump on the bus, take the bus to the fair, we would sure appreciate that effort.”

Inside the fairgrounds, the roads are paved and won’t be a problem. Cox said the State Fair has been looking to expand parking for a couple of months, but the wet grounds forced them to do it sooner.

The Nebraska State Fair opens Friday. Don’t miss NET’s broadcast of All Things Considered from the Nebraska State Fair on Wednesday, August 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. CT.
