A central Nebraska conservation group is inviting families to explore the Platte this weekend.

Rowe Sanctuary is hosting its third annual “Play in the Platte” event Saturday morning. It’s a popular event among families, according to Rowe Sanctuary. Beka Yates, education manager at Rowe Sanctuary, said they want to give people a hands-on experience in the Platte.

“A lot of wildlife really relies on this piece of water for their life," Yates said. "By allowing people to really get in and get dirty in the river to explore what is there, what lives there, gives them that hands-on connection to the habitat itself.”

Yates said many people take the Platte for granted and this is a good opportunity to learn about it. Participants are encouraged to bring clothes that can get wet and closed-toed shoes. “Play in the Platte” is free and starts at 9 a.m. CT Saturday at Rowe Sanctuary near Gibbon, Nebraska.
