New Douglas County Historical Society Exhibit Explores Omaha's Treasures

May 9, 2019 - 2:10pm

Members of the Omaha community will be able to learn about many of Omaha’s treasures starting May 19 when the Douglas County Historical Society opens its new exhibit “Straight out of Omaha.”

The exhibit will examine the many ways Omaha has contributed to the nation and the world. "Straight out of Omaha" will feature displays on cultural impactors Gabrielle Union and Fred Astaire, sports figures Terrance Crawford and Johnny Goodman, the Trans-Mississippi Exposition and the College World Series.

Roxanne Knutson, Douglas County Historical Society visitor experience coordinator, says the exhibit will feature a wide variety of displays and the public won’t want to miss out.

“Well, I think they would be surprised to learn about what came from Omaha," Knutson said. "They may have seen well-known names, but if they come to the exhibit, they may find out information about people or inventions that they may not have realized came from Omaha.”

"Straight out of Omaha" opens May 19 and runs until next April at the historic Fort Omaha. The exhibit is free, but reservations must be made to attend the opening. To make reservations, call 402-455-9990 or email Members@DouglasCoHistory.org.
