Vietnam War Veterans Day in Nebraska Honored With Ceremonies

Today marks Vietnam War Veterans Day in Nebraska, and two special ceremonies at the Nebraska State Capitol and in Springfield honored those who served.

Governor Pete Ricketts hosted a ceremony for Vietnam War veterans at the Nebraska State Capitol, where he proclaimed March 29th as Vietnam War Veterans Day and presented veterans with honorary lapel pins. Similarly, special lapel pins were given to veterans in Springfield this morning as the Omaha National Cemetery held a commemoration to honor their service.

Cindy Bibber, who is the director for the Omaha and Fort McPherson National Cemeteries, said Vietnam War Veterans Day is to remember the sacrifices of veterans and families during a difficult time in history.

“There’s a lot of names on that wall in Washington D.C. for those that didn’t come home," Bibber said. "I think it’s time, as an American people, to say thank you for that generation of those who served and for the sacrifice, especially for the families and the named individuals on that wall. It’s just a time for us to say thank you for their service and sacrifice during that difficult time in America, and to finally say, ‘Welcome home.’”

Bibber said the Omaha National Cemetery will continue recognizing and pinning Vietnam veterans regardless of their service location.
