A Grand Island children’s museum is one step closer to completion with the formation of a steering committee to oversee the process.

Audrey Rowley, a lawyer, Grand Island native and member of the steering committee, said she had the idea for the children’s museum when she returned to Grand Island from law school in 2011. She began by reaching out to like-minded community members beginning last summer.

The committee is made up of a wide variety of individuals, including educators, stay-at-home moms, architects, marketing and legal professionals and others.

“So, thinking, meeting with other people," she said, "it’s pretty clear at least to me and to a lot of the other people that we need more opportunities for children and their families to have indoor play, interactive and engaging areas where they can spend time together and also develop the child’s creativity and educational growth as well.”

The steering committee’s first major project is partnering with Hastings College to conduct a feasibility and sustainability study. They will focus on the locational and diversity needs of the Grand Island community.
