College of Saint Mary to Host Inaugural Lead Like A Girl Luncheon

The College of Saint Mary in Omaha will host the inaugural Lead Like A Girl Luncheon on Wednesday to celebrate women and girls as leaders and student-athletes.

The luncheon will take place on National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday and will recognize Omaha public and Catholic high school student-athletes who have been nominated in areas of leadership, character and teamwork. Terri Wachtler, vice president for alumnae and donor relations and a former softball player at the college, will be the event’s keynote speaker.

Assistant athletic director Jamie Adams said the focus of the luncheon is to highlight good character and leadership, not necessarily individual statistics or sports achievements.

“There are a lot of awards out there for best athlete or best player in a certain sport – a lot of stat-based awards," Adams said. "We wanted this one to be different; we wanted to recognize young ladies who are doing a fantastic job not only on their teams but in their schools and in their communities as well.”

Adams said the awards, which are the Integrity, Spark, Trailblazer and Coach of Character Awards, will be delivered by current women student-athletes at the college.
