November Survey Shows High Consumer, Business Confidence in Nebraska

A November survey of Nebraska workers and businesses shows consumer and business confidence in the state remains high.

The survey, conducted by the Bureau of Business Research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, collects responses from 500 randomly selected businesses and households each month to determine an index score that measures confidence. Business confidence in Nebraska has remained high throughout 2018, while consumer confidence fell in the middle of the year and has since rebounded.

Eric Thompson, professor of economics at UNL and director of the Bureau of Business Research, said the survey also shows an increased confidence in job security.

“I think we have a pretty good environment for Nebraska workers," Thompson said. "Relatively few respondents to the household survey mentioned being laid off recently or having concerns about losing their job, so people are pretty positive about their job prospects.”

The survey also indicated that one of the largest concerns for businesses in the state is finding enough workers.
