Wyuka Cemetery to Participate in Annual ‘Wreaths Across America’ Event

December 3, 2018 - 1:56pm

Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln will be participating in the annual “Wreaths Across America” event on Saturday, December 15. This event is to honor military veterans by placing a wreath at their gravestone.

More than 1,850 wreaths will be placed around the cemetery by hundreds of volunteers and family members.

Diane Bartels, a committee member for Wyuka Cemetery and the event, said the support from the Lincoln community is what makes this event so special.

“It is amazing, the support that this community offers to make this event such an awesome, awesome sight," Bartels said. "And so, those of us on the committee, many of them whom are veterans, know firsthand the sacrifice and the commitment that has been made, and we want to make sure that no one is forgotten.”

The event is free and open to the public. There will be a short ceremony at Wyuka Cemetery at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, December 15, followed by the laying of the wreaths. Similar wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at cemeteries across Nebraska and more than 1,400 cemeteries in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.
