Game Day Underage Drinking Project Concludes with Positive Results

December 3, 2018 - 1:43pm

The Lincoln Police Department says it made progress in combating underage drinking during the Husker football season thanks to a special emphasis on the problem.

Partly due to the weather and early game times, the number of citations issued decreased considerably during the second half of the season. Another primary factor was the partnerships LPD has been forming with landlords to register and monitor game day parties.

Angela Sands, the public information officer for LPD, said the department is seeing progress as a result of the project.

“Definitely happy with some of the results here," Sands said. "Their hard work is starting to pay off, landlords are working with us, so it’s definitely something we want to see continue in this direction.”

The project is funded by a grant and will likely continue next year during the 2019 Husker football season.
