The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles says it is experiencing great success with its new customer service policies and online drive test appointment system.

Customers are saving an average of 21 minutes per visit at the Omaha Metro South location due to the policy changes.

The online appointment scheduling system is available to applicants who have already passed their written test and now wish to schedule a driving test in Douglas, Sarpy and Lancaster Counties. Services will be expanded in 2019 to other areas.

Rhonda Lahm, the director of the Nebraska DMV, said the changes have made a big impact on customers.

“But more importantly, being able to accommodate the numbers of people we see in those offices so that we can reduce our wait time, which was reduced significantly from a little over half an hour down to an average of about seven and a half, eight minutes," Lahm said.

Two more facilities are expected to open in the Omaha Metro area, one in North Omaha in April of 2019 and one in West Omaha scheduled for 2020.
