Creighton Fashion Show to Raise Awareness on Stigmas Surrounding Disabilities

A fashion show for all ages and abilities will be put on by the Creighton University Student Empowerment Network Saturday to create awareness about rising up to the stigmas surrounding disability.

Titled “Rise Up Runway,” this year’s show will be the second iteration and features more than 55 participants. The event will showcase the unique outfits and talents of those involved, with each being specifically chosen by the participants.

Julia Neppel, a student with the Creighton University Student Empowerment Network and an organizer of “Rise Up Runway,” said she hopes the fashion show provides a strong sense of community support for people walking down the runway.

“We are hoping the individuals that participate have an extraordinary experience," Neppel said. "Lots of typical children experience prom and homecoming and lots of special events, and for these individuals, we want to provide that community support as they go down the runway.”

The fashion show will be held in The Scoular Ballroom at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. After the show, there will be a social hour and a performance by the Special Musicians - a musical group affiliated with the Special Olympics.
