LES Sends Crews to Florida to Help with Hurricane Relief Efforts

October 10, 2018 - 2:19pm

As Hurricane Michael smashes through the gulf coast of Florida’s panhandle, a team of Lincoln Electric System employees is in route to help with the relief efforts. The 14-person team deployed at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday with nine vehicles. They’ll report to Tallahassee on Thursday.

LES employees are joined by six Grand Island Utilities employees who are also making the trip.

Rachel Barth, communication specialist at LES, says the team will bring useful skills to an unknown disaster setting.

“Our guys are pretty versatile, they actually know how to do underground and overhead work," Barth said. "So, the guys might be seeing anything from rebuilding lines, putting up poles depending on how much damage they had. They might be fixing transformers or replacing transformers.”

Last year an LES team was also sent to help with relief efforts for Hurricane Irma.
