LPD’s Game Day Underage Drinking Project works to Counter Illegal Behavior

October 8, 2018 - 11:08am

The Lincoln Police Department is partnering with University of Nebraska-Lincoln police to counter illegal behavior on Husker game days. The Underage Drinking Project is halfway through the 2018 football season.

The project is designed to promote safe environments at parties and tailgates throughout Lincoln on game days. Police say parties can lead to illegal behavior, especially with underage drinking.

Angela Sands, the public information officer for LPD, said the project is to ensure safety for everyone.

“And so we’re trying to educate the students and the people that are participating in these parties to try to decrease some of the victimization and some of the dangerous behavior,” Sands said.

So far this season, the Lincoln Police Department has issued 18 minor in possession citations on game days. LPD encourages the public to register their parties with the department in order to help them watch for unsafe behaviors.
