Domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking are topics being discussed this week at a conference in Lincoln. The Nebraska State Patrol is teaming up with the Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence for the third year in a row to host the “No More Crimes of Power and Control” conference.

Emily Schoenleber of the Nebraska State Patrol said the conference highlights the importance of these issues.

"These crimes happen, all across our state, in our local communities all across the state. They are, unfortunately, very prevalent and occur in all communities, all different communities across the state," Schoenleber said. “It is imperative that we focus on the abuses that are being perpetrated and holding those people accountable as opposed to blaming the victim for the situation that they’ve been put in.”

The goal of the conference is to offer tools for participants to provide safety for victims, hold criminals accountable and increase coordination with criminal justice partners.
