A trade delegation led by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture recently visited Vietnam to promote Nebraska agriculture and talk with potential trade partners of Nebraska beef products. The trip to Vietnam took place the week of August 6.

During the trip, the delegation met with numerous Vietnamese companies at a forum held to discuss trade possibilities of exporting Nebraska beef. At least three companies signed letters of intent for mutual cooperation.

Counsel for international trade with the department of agriculture, Angel Velitchkov, says the trip opened up a number of opportunities for Nebraska’s beef industry.

“When we came back, we were reaching out to a number of companies here in the region to make the contacts with the companies that we met with in Vietnam," Velitchkov said. "We are very hopeful that this will lead to some actual contracts being signed and start shipping some of our beef over to Vietnam.”

The Bao Ngoc Company was the largest to sign a letter of intent with the delegation, and currently has a distribution network of more than 10,000 grocery stores and 500 restaurants. The other two businesses were D&A Vietnam JSC and Duc Anh Import Export.
