July 17, 2018 - 3:42pm

A third Nebraska State Patrol Cruiser has been hit within a month of the other two accidents. The most recent crash occurred Monday, July 16, afternoon on Highway 34 near Benkelman. The Trooper was headed northbound and was struck by a southbound semi.

The state trooper did not suffer any serious injuries, but the semi driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two crashes involving state troopers in the past month occurred on June 17th on Highway 20 in Cedar County and July 13th on Highway 275 near Beemer. In the June crash, the trooper, who was stopped at a temporary construction stoplight, was struck from behind by another car.

The July incident occurred when an oncoming vehicle crossed over both lanes of traffic and struck the stopped trooper, who was conducting a traffic stop.

In both of the other accidents, the troopers involved suffered only minor injuries, but members of the other cars were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
