The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will hold a public hearing next week to discuss a possible mountain lion hunting season in 2019.

The proposed season, which would run from January 1st to February 28, allows for up to eight mountain lions to be hunted within the Pine Ridge region of the state.

The Pine Ridge region would be split into two sub-units, one north of Highway 20 and the other south of Highway 20. A maximum of four mountain lions may be hunted in each region during the season. Once the maximum number of mountain lions in one region has been hunted, the region will close for the season.

A total of 640 permits will be divided between the two units through a drawing, according to a Game and Parks press release.
