The 2017 Governor’s Lecture in the Humanities was presented by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian T. J. Stiles on October 3rd, 2017 at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Stiles is the author of “Custer’s Trials: A Life on the Frontier of a New America” and has also written books on Jesse James and Cornelius Vanderbilt. Stiles spoke of the role Nebraska and other Midwestern states played in shaping the nation, including their parts in major conflicts, like the Indian Plains Wars and the Civil War.
